Interest in solar energy has surged across the Caribbean, driven by the region’s push toward green growth and energy independence. At the forefront of this movement is Green Solutions International SKN Inc. (GSI)—a regional leader in solar photovoltaic (PV) training and renewable energy workforce development. GSI is empowering Caribbean citizens with the skills to deliver safe solar PV installations for residential and commercial applications.

Building Regional Capacity Through Solar Training

GSI is dedicated to building a skilled workforce across the Caribbean capable of supporting a clean energy transition. The organization is a hub for knowledge-sharing, technical innovation, and professional networking within the solar industry.

Executive Director Dr. Wayne E. Archibald states, “GSI aims to serve as a repository and hub for clean energy knowledge, helping bridge the gap for players in the regional renewables sector.”

Global-Standard Certification: NABCEP Solar PV Training

At the heart of GSI’s mission is its delivery of the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) certification in photovoltaics. Recognized as the gold standard in renewable energy certification, NABCEP credentials equip Caribbean professionals with globally respected qualifications.

“Having a NABCEP credential signals to employers and clients that the individual is safety-conscious, knowledgeable, and committed to quality in solar PV installations,” said Dr. Archibald. “It enhances professional credibility and consumer trust.”

Training Over 500 Professionals Across the Caribbean

Over the past two years, GSI has trained more than 500 individuals across the region through in-person sessions and a virtual platform. Participants include:

• Solar installers
• Inspectors
• System designers
• Financial advisors
• Policymakers

These programs were supported by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).

Strengthening the Caribbean’s Renewable Energy Workforce

Dr. Archibald emphasizes that “our goal is to align training outcomes with workforce needs and ensure talent development and retention across the region.”

Judith Ephraim, Programme Coordinator at OECS, noted the critical role GSI plays:

GSI’s Role in Jamaica’s Energy Resilience

In partnership with The Cadmus Group LLC and The University of the West Indies (Mona Campus), GSI is leading workforce development under the USAID-funded SESR-Jamaica Project (Strengthening Energy Sector Resilience).

This US$4-million, three-year initiative aims to:

• Enhance the energy sector’s resilience to shocks
• Promote the adoption of distributed solar PV and PV+ battery storage
• Provide online and hands-on training for solar installers and inspectors
• Empower underrepresented populations, especially women
