As the Caribbean accelerates its journey toward clean energy and sustainability, Green Solutions International SKN Inc. (GSI) is taking a leading role in preparing the region’s workforce for the renewable future. Through specialized solar photovoltaic (PV) training and international certification programs, GSI is equipping citizens with the expertise to perform safe, efficient, and high-quality solar PV installations for both residential and commercial applications.
Building Regional Expertise Through Solar Education
GSI serves as a catalyst for renewable energy knowledge and capacity building across the Caribbean. The organization is not only training professionals but also fostering collaboration and technical innovation within the solar industry.
“Our mission is to serve as a center for clean energy learning and professional growth,” says Dr. Wayne E. Archibald, Executive Director of GSI. “By bridging knowledge gaps and providing practical skills, we’re supporting the region’s transition toward a resilient and sustainable energy future.”
Global-Standard Certification: NABCEP Solar PV Training
Central to GSI’s impact is its delivery of the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) certification — widely recognized as the gold standard in solar PV credentials. This internationally respected qualification enhances professional credibility, promotes safety, and ensures technical excellence in solar system design, installation, and inspection.
“Earning a NABCEP certification demonstrates a strong commitment to quality and safety,” Dr. Archibald explains. “It builds consumer confidence and sets a high standard for solar PV professionals across the Caribbean.”
These capacity-building programs are supported by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) — reflecting strong regional collaboration to strengthen local clean energy expertise.
Advancing the Caribbean’s Clean Energy Workforce
“Our priority is to align renewable energy training with workforce needs and foster long-term talent retention in the region,” emphasizes Dr. Archibald.
Judith Ephraim, Programme Coordinator at OECS, commends GSI’s efforts:
“Organizations like GSI are laying the groundwork for a skilled, self-reliant workforce that can drive down energy costs and fuel the Caribbean’s sustainable growth.”
Leighton Waterman, Sustainable Energy Specialist at CDB, adds:
“GSI is at the forefront of preparing Caribbean professionals to thrive in the fast-evolving global renewable energy industry.”
Strengthening Energy Resilience in Jamaica
In partnership with The Cadmus Group LLC and The University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona Campus, GSI leads workforce development efforts under the USAID-funded SESR-Jamaica Project (Strengthening Energy Sector Resilience) — a US$4 million, three-year initiative designed to:
- Boost the energy sector’s resilience against shocks
- Expand adoption of distributed solar PV and battery storage systems
- Deliver online and practical solar installation and inspection training
- Create new opportunities for women and underrepresented groups
“GSI’s leadership and training expertise are essential to achieving SESR-Jamaica’s objectives,” notes Christina Becker-Brick, Vice President of International Programs at Cadmus.
