Powering Progress: GSI Advances Clean Energy and EV Workforce Training Across the Caribbean

55 / 100 SEO Score

From electric mobility in Jamaica to solar energy in Montserrat, the Caribbean is taking bold steps toward a greener, more resilient future — with Green Solutions International SKN Inc. (GSI) helping to lead the charge.

Jamaica Leads in Electric Vehicle Certification

Jamaica is set to become the first Caribbean island to certify individuals in electric vehicle repair, maintenance, and safety under the Institute of Motor Industry (IMI) — the UK’s premier automotive certification body.

This groundbreaking initiative, implemented by the JPS Foundation and IDB Lab through the eDrive “Train-the-Trainer” program, is preparing a new generation of Jamaican technicians and first responders to support the nation’s transition to electric mobility.

In collaboration with HEART/NSTA Trust, the Jamaica Defense Force, and the Ministry of Education, 15 master trainers are undergoing IMI-accredited instruction led by Andrew Latham of EINTAC (UK). They will soon train over 400 professionals island-wide in EV technology, hazard management, and emergency response.

According to Dr. Wayne Archibald, Executive Director of GSI, the program goes beyond technical training:

“Our work with JPS and HEART/NSTA includes developing EV safety codes, adapting IMI curricula for Jamaica, and creating NVQJ standards that ensure long-term safety, consistency, and local capacity.”

This initiative marks a major milestone in Jamaica’s electric mobility roadmap, ensuring a homegrown workforce is ready to support the nation’s evolving energy and transport sectors.

Montserrat Strengthens Health Sector Through Solar Power

In Montserrat, GSI has enhanced the island’s renewable energy capacity by designing, installing, and commissioning three solar PV systems across key health facilities — the Salem and St. Peter’s Health Centers and the St. John’s Dental Clinic.

Funded by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and Basic Needs Trust Fund (BNTF), this project not only powers health facilities with clean energy but also provides critical backup during emergencies.

As part of the initiative, 11 Montserratians received NABCEP-certified solar PV training, equipping them with the technical skills to maintain and expand local renewable systems.

“A well-trained workforce is at the heart of energy resilience,” said Dr. Archibald. “Through this project, Montserrat has strengthened both its health infrastructure and its human capacity for sustainable energy.”

Building a Regional Green Workforce

Whether advancing electric mobility in Jamaica or renewable energy in Montserrat, GSI continues to play a transformative role in empowering Caribbean citizens, aligning regional standards with global best practices, and ensuring that the benefits of the clean energy transition reach every community.
